Removal of intimate images
Our colleagues in An Garda Síochána have informed us of a new online process where intimate images can be removed through an online services called Take It Down (ncmec.org)
Where intimate images are shared on social media platforms, the images may be taken down by the victim using the ‘Take it down’ facility through the following websites;
- If under 18 years of age – NCMEC (National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children) – National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (missingkids.org)
Go to ‘Get Help’ scroll down to ‘Take it Down’ and follow the guidelines.
- If over 18 years of age – Stop NCII (Stop Non-Consensual Intimate Image Abuse) – Stop Non-Consensual Intimate Image Abuse | StopNCII.org
The request to take down the image must be done from the device which was used by the victim to send the image. The victim will not be required to resend the image. His/her request will be shared with other platforms and any copy of the image will also be taken down.
The sharing of images is an offence and should be reported at your local Garda Station.
