Overview

Local Community Safety Partnership pilot in Dublin’s North Inner City.

This is a new initiative which has at its core a mandate to work collaboratively with local communities, Gardai and public services to make the North Inner City a safer, better place for families, residents and businesses.

The North Inner City was one of three areas in the country chosen by Government as part of this pilot project – the others are Longford and Waterford. These three projects will lead the way for an eventual roll out of Community Safety Partnerships across Ireland. The locations of the three pilot programmes were chosen based on a number of factors, including population density, crime rates and deprivation.  The model is built on the principle that every community needs to be central in identifying what it needs to help to shape solutions for its locality and have a direct say in those solutions with relevant State Agencies. The North Inner-City Safety Partnership replaced the Joint Policing Committee (JPC) for the area.

The pilot programme for Local Community Safety Partnership was announced by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee in November 2020.
