Youth Cafe

In September the Local Community Safety Partnership (LCSP) invited young people who live, socialise, attend school, or worship in Dublin’s North Inner City share their ideas and opinions on matters that affect young people’s safety within our communities.

The objective of our youth engagement programme is to ensure that local youth voices have an ongoing opportunity to influence key stakeholders such as Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochána and other state bodies, through the Local Community Safety Partnership Board (the Board)

There is currently a vacant position on the Board which has been specifically allocated to youth. We hope to fill this role through our youth engagement process, and elect a young person who will represent local youths and their ideas, issues and concerns, at the Board.

The LCSP hosted an online meeting (in-line with public health guidelines), and were delighted to be joined on the day by our recently returned Olympian Jack Woolley.

Jack spoke about his long-term commitment to working to improve communities. He also spoke about the unprovoked attack he experienced in August, while in Dublin City Centre.

The forum discussed many issues which influence matters of safety for our youth, and agreed that it would be best to reach-out and encourage positive youth engagement through services such as youth clubs, sports clubs, schools and colleges.

Following the meeting the process of engagement has continued with sessions held in Ballybough Youth Centre. The LCSP has further sessions planned with local boxing and dance clubs.

If you would like to join in the youth engagement programme or feel you know of candidate to fill the youth representative role – feel free to contact us at communitysafety@dublincity.ie
